A. This is no way meant to disparage those who suffer from mental illness. Remember, Scuzzball is not a good person.

B. Years ago, back when we were in 5th grade, my old pal D.F. French sat down at the kitchen table to draw a comic book. But what should the comic be about? He looked around the room, and his eyes fell on a simple object on the table. Inspiration struck. That day he drew Messy Comics #3, starring Chappy Chapstick. Chappy was a super-hero who battled Freezy the Freezer. I mentioned that D.F. was in the kitchen, right?

(Sidenote: The fact that we had a series called Messy Comics clues you in that we have been looking for excuses to cut corners from day one.)

Years later, when we revived Chappy, D.F. and I realized that if we ever wanted to sell comics with the character, we couldn't call him Chappy Chapstick, because Chapstick is a brand name. Unfortunately, Lippy Lip Balm didn't have a very good ring to it, so we decided to just call him Chappy and not use his last name.

I have always loved Chappy as a character, for reasons that are not at all clear to me. More on him next time.
