You'll notice that today's comic looks different from the previous ones. There are two reasons for that--it was drawn almost 20 years ago, and I didn't draw it.

First, some background. The oldest surviving Fuzzball & Scuzzball comic is a short strip that Mr. D.F. French drew when we were in 5th grade called "The Valentine Card Caper." This would have been in 1985. Ten years later, after we had revived Fuzzball & Scuzzball, I decided we should do a new version of "The Valentine Card Caper," with fancier artwork and way more cynicism and profanity. I wrote up a script, Mr. D.F. French tweaked it, and then he drew the version you see here.

This is probably the high point of D.F.'s comic drawing career. What did he have, back then, that neither of us have now? Tons of free time. I promise you it took well over an hour for him to ink just that first panel. Look at how carefully placed each line is. As a result of his painstaking work, though, the story really comes to life.

I particularly enjoy all the little jokes that D.F. added in--the "Get Wild With Oscar Wilde!" poster, the letter from the "Ruler of the Month Club" . . . there's a lot to enjoy on this page.

Check back two days from now, on Valentine's Day, for the second (and final) page.
